Central Working Group of Youth Wing of National League for Democracy (Liberated Area) (NLD-LA- Youth)

Person-in charge

The NLD-LA has been based along the Burma-Thailand, Burma-India, and Burma-China borders. sine after the SLORC has denied to honor the result of the 1990 election. The NLD-LA consists of members of NLD and Members of Parliament.

The pivotal tasks of the NLD-LA are to secure the international

supports. to support –

The main tasks of The NLD-LA (Youth) are to upgrade the capacity of youth, to cooperate with youth and student’s unions, democratic forces and other nationalities' forces, to maintain the world peace cooperating with international youth organizations and unions as well, to protect and respect the contexts of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by United Nations and to stand as a main force of implementing and safeguarding the policies of the NLD.

The first responsible person of the youth wing.

To implement the activities of the youth wing in accordance with

decisions of Central Working Group

To attend the regular meeting of Central Committee of the NLD.

To closely monitor all the activities of the youth wing and report

back to the Central Committee of the NLD.

Students and Youth Congress of Burma (SYCB)

A member of Presidiums

The SYCB is a youth umbrella organization consisting of ten students and youth organizations from the Burma-India and Burma-Thailand borders, with the aims of building mutual understanding among diverse ethnic youth for the future of Burma.

Led and secure the policies of the whole SYCB

Managed fundraising and maintained relationships with supporters.

Helped to secure financial and political support for its members

from international youth organizations.

Organized the Third Congress of SYCB as a Chairperson of Commission.

Organized one-week Conflict Resolution seminar (August 2001)

with the aims of engaging youth from Burma in order to solve ethnic

conflicts in Burma and to promote knowledge among youth.

Approximately 60 youth attended from various ethnic nationalities.

Coordinated language, accounting, organizational management and computer training in order to upgrade the capacity of youth.

Arranged four exposure trips to Karreni area, Shan area, and Monarea where a team from the Congress and local youth openly discussed Burma's democracy movement and ethnic conflicts and explored ways to work collectively and productively.

Initiated to have youth exchange in Mae'Hong Son area. The ultimate goal of the exchange is to have friendship building.

Organized the regular youth exchange once a month in Mae Sot, funded by the SYCB, as a Head of Exchange Committee.

It was set up with the aims of to provide technical supports to

democratic forces, to extend the media work through modem computer techniques and to upgrade the computer knowledge cooperating with other technicians from abroad.
